Probing Question: Why would the artist use this illustration when discussing perception?
Lewis Longman stated, "Perspective isn’t everything—it’s the only thing. How we see things sets the limitation of our perceived opportunities, solutions and alternatives. Because we see things differently, we bring to our client a perspective that others cannot."
As this new year begins, please realize that each student will learn at a different pace and see things from a different perspective based on their own personal experiences. It will all depend on where each student stands, just like this illustration. How can we help each student? Find common ground with them!
Research shows how technology usage enhances children's development. If they enjoy iPads, differentiate using iPad apps. If the common ground is discussing current events, use that to your advantage and include the trends from Twitter using TweetWall, TweetBeam, or VisibleTweets. If your students love to dance by doing the Whip and Nae Nae, want to Hit the Quan or Dab it, do it with them. Students love movies? Use Wingclips and allow the small movie clips to produce inquiry and cognitive awareness. It's all about creating a climate of trust and setting an atmosphere to relate and see things how your students see it. If it's rap and poetry, do that! Don't limit the students' perspectives. Please, expand upon them. Differentiate!
